Sub-groups can be used to group people together as families for example. To add a new subgroup select a person and then tap on the three dots that appear next to the node. Then select "Create new group" to open the subgroup popup.

Type in a name and select the persons you want to add to the subgroup. After creating a group you can also add persons by dragging them on a subgroup.
